Exploring the great outdoors brings me peace and renewal in the beauty of nature. The solitude I encounter when immersed deep in the wilderness is routinely a profound and introspective experience. And there is something joyful about just being active, about moving myself through the landscape, perhaps it is that it simply deepens my connection to the magic of being alive. Memorable trips for me have been sea kayaking in the San Juans, the Gulf Islands, Desolation Sound and on Lake Owhyee, bicycle touring along the west coast, mountain bike touring in the Ochocos and Mongolia, and backpacking in the Wallawas.
